THE ART OF URBAN INTERVENTION

collaborative project

2009 - 2011

The Art of Urban Intervention deals with the possibilities of art in the public space related to the transformation processes in communities and neighbourhoods.

Our focus in this complex joint project is on mapping the connections between the conceptual and context-based artistic practices from the late 1960s and 1970s, in the so-called peripheral geographies, with an emphasis on artistic tactics and strategies in relation to the public space. One of the aims of the project is to look backwards, from the East to the West, examining the correlations and paradoxes, and to seek ways of breaking through the exotic views on the so-called Eastern Europe and its past.

The activities branch out into four lines: 1. Research, 2. The discursive line (lectures, seminars), 3. Hosting the guest researcher, and 4. Publishing the critical reader.
